Franco Azzopardi, Chairman, iAS At the general meeting of the shareholders of iAS (Innovative Architectural Structures), Franco Azzopardi has been appointed as the new chairman of the organization, with the intention of further strengthening the Board through cross-breeding of diverse professionals, and now replaces the previous Chairman Peter Zammit, the director responsible for Project Management. iAS is an architectural and engineering firm which has diversified its services in the fields of project management and specialized design services, where they have been entrusted with major projects such as the Lufthansa Technik Malta Maintenance Facility and Pender Gardens.

Franco has been involved with iAS since its inception in 2004, in which time he contributed towards the setup of the business model and marketing strategy of iAS. Franco has built a reputation for a modern outlook in business administration following his successful completion of a postgraduate degree in finance at the University of Leicester that enhances his background as a CPA, and after his 17 year involvement as a founding partner in a mid‐tier accounting firm, where he was responsible for Corporate Strategy, Risk Management and Knowledge/People Development. He was also elected member of the Council of the Malta Institute of Accountants in 2007, is a director of a mid-tier accountancy firm 3a Malta Ltd, and also serves as a board member and member of the audit committees of public interest entities such as APS Bank Ltd and RS2 plc. He also served in the past as board member of authorities including the Malta Transport Authority, Valletta Harbour Regeneration Corporation PLC, University Sports Complex Ltd and was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Governing Body of Sport in Malta. Franco currently focuses on strategy, finance and governance towards better performance in professional service firms, where iAS was amongst the first to engage his services. He has become the driving force required to set business standards in the local market and advance iAS towards an international outlook.

Franco’s engagement is in line with the firm’s strong belief in the need of incorporation of different professional competences in order to enhance the firm’s outlook and development. Existing board members Peter Zammit, Stephen Grech and Adrian Mifsud commented that the appointment of Franco will assist iAS in developing an enhanced business development whilst allowing board directors to concentrate on the development of the firm’s core competencies.
