The new LPG facility currently being developed by Gasco at Benghajsa has in the past weeks achieved a major milestone with the installation of the new LPG storage tanks. In total 6 tanks were installed each having a length of 43m (half the length of a football pitch), a diameter of 7.5m ( the height of a two story terrace house including the parapet wall) and weighing 300T each with a capacity of holding 1750 cubic metres of LPG.
The tanks were manufactured by Tanko in Sicily and transported to Malta on a proprietary vessel berthing at the Malta Freeport. Mammoet were assigned the task to transfer the tanks from the jetty to their final resting place, a distance in the region of 1.50Km.
The project now enters its final phase of construction where all works surrounding the tanks can be initiated. It is anticipated that this phase will last for approximately 6 months following which the commissioning phase of the whole facility will commence.
